The 3 Little Pigs Build a Better House
Students were engaged to build a better house for the pigs against the wolf's "huff and puff, and blow the house down."
The challenge was for the house to stay up and the pigs to stay in!
As fun as it is to make it, we enjoyed "destroying it." Some of us took turns to be the wolf and work on the "blow the house down" part with a hand-held folding fun. That's why you may see one students walking around and fanning the fan on the houses.
One of the most important part of STEM was to share at the end. Each team shared what worked. Then we went around again and shared what didn't work and how we would add or change it. We had a lot of ideas.
I think the best part was all but one structure really stayed put and contained the pigs. So in that sense we experienced a lot of "failures." But we are learning that mistakes make that best teacher and lessons. So we embrace when it doesn't work, the thing is what would we do next! Have a can-do attitude and try again learning off what we did and/or what other teams did.
Of course math is real life. So we counted up our tickets by groups of 5. Then we also counted each day's total using a ten frame. We are truly dedicated to the cause. Look at our orange and black socks!
