We got to open our first try at our binders for poetry folder. We worked through the Classroom Rules song. Students loved getting their 3-hole punched papers and inserting them into their binders. Here you can see us use yellow highlighters for words and pink or a second color for word chunks (we found a lot of /th/). This is a great activity to talk about words and word chunks. As you can see for the pictures, it’s required that the students find them.
We read One Gorilla, A Counting book by Atsuko Morozumi. We took the author/illustrator’s idea and recreated our own illustrations. We talked about setting to add detail to our pages. We also played “mix it-fix it” when putting the text back together--great one-to-one correspondence for words activity!
