We usually write about our long vacations in our journal upon return to school. This time, we took the spring photos and inserted it into our google slide. Google slides and doc is a different means to communicate your ideas in written form via technology. This also gave us a chance to learn more how to use google slide (and how to type on the computer!). Students wrote a title heading and their name. Then they wrote about their topic (spring vacation) with some details. Hopefully they closed it with an adjective!
Tech-wise, this was another level of learning. Of course, students are working their ideas, how to form a sentence, how to spell, spacing, and whatever writing skills needed to go with our regular pencil and paper tools. Using google, students had questions like inserting text, how to delete, making capitals, trying to fix that red squiggly line (spell correction), someone asked how to do an apostrophe (but questioned logically why it was on the lower part of the button when in writing it’s up top), and of course--I just had it and now it’s all gone! Did you know google slides and docs have one of the best feature--automatic save! Also, when something is lost, we just press the undo, undo, undo button! Magic!
On Friday, we ended the week with an ArtSmart project. We made art celebrating old circus posters. We learned about mixed media and collages. We used construction paper, dot stickers, coffee filters, and sharpies for the whiskers. We loved how with the same direction and materials--no two pieces like identical! Masterpieces! Thank you HSC!
